How to make a small wreath

When I was finishing off our walk in closet renovation I felt the entry into it needed cheering up a bit. This was especially true because it was Christmas. I decided that a small wreath would work but I didn’t want a Christmas one because I wanted to be able to leave it there all year.

Finding a non Christmas wreath at this time of the year was impossible! This left me with no alternative but to have a go at making one. I was not overly confident as it would only be small and I am not always great with fiddly things🤣 Anyway I headed off to Spotlight with no clue as to what I wanted to do.

In the faux flower section I found this bunch of flowers in a blush tone that I thought would be perfect for the closet.

I ended up buying a plain metal wreath as my base. The garland, florist wire and gold ribbon I already had. The garland was perfect for this job because it was easy to pull apart. I found this one at Kmart for $3.00.

How to make a small wreath

To begin separate your floral bunch and remove the green leaves from the garland. I did have a false start. To begin with I added some of the green garland leaves. The way it was looking was not what I had envisioned. So I removed them and started adding the florals first. I simply cut small bits of florist wire and twisted it around the leaf stems and then around the frame. The florals were easy to attach as they already had wire in their stems. It was easy to twist it around the frame and then attach in a few areas.

The floral pieces were added to the bottom section of the metal wreath with florist wire. I wanted it to look a little wild so I only attached it in a few points. Greenery was added next to the top section of the metal wreath, also with florist wire.

Finishing Touches

At this stage I was just trying a few different things, like adding a bow and more florals. I decided I didn’t like the bow so kept going with the extra florals. More sections of the garland were added in so that you could no longer see the metal frame. I also pulled in a few more sections of the florals and attached with wire as I wanted it a little more structured. The area I wanted to place it was not very wide so I needed to make sure that it wouldn’t overhang into the walk way.

The picture on the left shows the back of the wreath. You can see where I wrapped the florist wire around the wire frame to securely attach the pieces. I used the green leaf pieces to hide any of the remaining frame. For my first wreath I think it came out beautiful and was exactly what I wanted for the space.
