Kitchen Organisation

Every new year the first thing I want to do, after everyone goes back to work, is declutter and re-organise the house. I’m sure at lot of you are the same! The first place I always start is the kitchen. Kitchen organisation makes me feel like everything is right in my world 😂. This year though I was due for a bit more of a thorough clean out and declutter.

My top tips for kitchen organisation

  • One of my big tips for kitchen organisation is like with like. For example I have my coffee mugs, tea, sugar, hot chocolate etc all above the kettle. That way visitors can easily put their hands on all the items they will need to make themselves a cuppa.
  • Plan ahead, have a look at your storage options. Do you need to change these to cater better for your needs? If you do make sure you purchase what you might need before you start. Remember most places like Kmart etc will let you return what you don’t use (just make sure to keep your receipts). There is nothing worse than starting a job like this and having to run out to the shops because you don’t have what you need!!!
  • If you’re planning on using labels then you should order them in advance as well.
  • The next step is to remove everything from the cupboards. I do not do the pantry or the refrigerator at the same time as I find that all too overwhelming. Pulling everything out means that I will always be ruthless with what I put back. If I just rearrange things in place I very rarely throw anything away!!!

Making some decisions

As I wanted to streamline the look of my cabinets I wanted consistent storage options. I already had a few bamboo containers from K Mart (you can see them in the photos above) which I really liked. As a result I decided on a base colour scheme of bamboo and white. By choosing a colour theme it makes finding containers a little easier. There are many storage options out there now so it can be very overwhelming.

I’ll list below the items I purchased for this kitchen organisation project

Starting to put it all back together

To put everything back together, the fun bit!!, I chose to do one area at a time. Only replacing the things that I really wanted to keep – this is the important part! To successfully organise your kitchen you MUST cull the things that you don’t use. I decanted things into my new containers and applied the beautiful new labels from Pretty Pantry Labels.

Over time I have been slowly buying glass containers to replace all my tupperware. I find the glass so much better for keeping food fresh. They don’t discolour and survive the microwave.

I needed some custom labels for items that I knew I needed to store and Pretty Pantry Labels were able to do that for me easily.

I gathered all my placements, napkins and table runners together in the one large drawer. This drawer is located with all my crockery and cutlery making table setting easy.

My hubby made me the cutlery insert for my different cutlery sets.❤️ Don’t judge I do entertain a lot! 🤣

My utility cupboards have been sorted and labelled. The pullout shelf at the bottom makes getting appliances in and out much easier. I have two of these in the kitchen and they are brillian

I’m not going to lie this was a big job. and took me about 7 hours not including pre planning and purchasing of organisation items and labels. It was really worth it though. The kitchen feels amazing and I’m sure it will be easier to keep organised now.
