12 Simple Gift Wrapping Ideas

This week I have been lucky enough to team up with a group of very talented bloggers to share some gift wrapping ideas for Christmas.

I hope you find some inspiration from my 12 simple and inexpensive gift wrapping ideas.❤️

I love using plain paper as Christmas wrapping and making it beautiful with the addition of home made items. It makes it cost effective to as any leftover paper can also be used for birthday wrapping.

FABRIC XMAS TREE

SUPPLIES REQUIRED

  • Thin cardboard
  • Christmas fabric scraps
  • Small twigs
  • Double sided tape roller
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

The first step is to cut different shaped triangles from the cardboard – you will need two exactly the same per tree.

Next cut two pieces of fabric per tree slightly larger than the cardboard. Attach the cardboard to the fabric with double sided tape.

Using your hot glue gun attach a twig to one piece of cardboard. Then using your glue gun attach the two pieces together as shown in the picture.

Take the scissors and cut the fabric to the edge of the cardboard on an angle.

Roll a small piece of fabric into a ball and run the ball around the outside of the tree to rough the edges and soften the look.

Wrap your gift in plain paper, tie some string around it and then attach the tree as shown.

SNOW AND GUMNUTS

My next wrapping idea again uses plain wrapping paper – this time green.

SUPPLIES REQUIRED

  • Plain paper – I chose green for this idea
  • White faux fur
  • Christmas ribbon
  • Small gumnut sprig or whatever else you have in your collection

Wrap your gift. Wrap a strip of faux fir around the middle of the gift.

Layer ribbon over the faux fir and secure at the back. Lastly add the gumnut sprig.

BROWN PAPER AND CANDY CANES

  • Brown paper
  • Natural looking Christmas Ribbon
  • Thin ribbon
  • Candy Cane
  • Small Christmas verse
  • Hot Glue gun or tape

Wrap your gift in brown paper. Wrap ribbon through the centre and secure at the back with tape or glue.

Using the thin ribbon gather the centre of the large ribbon and tie it up. Loop another piece of thin ribbon through and secure the candy cane and the Christmas verse card. Done!

LAVENDER WREATH

  • Plain paper – I used white
  • Florist wire
  • Fresh lavender or rosemary
  • Hessian Ribbon
  • String
  • hot glue gun
  • Green cardboard
  • Christmas verse

Note: the lavender will begin to dry after a few days which still looks nice but it wont be green. If you want a long lasting green wreath you should use faux greens.

Wrap the gift in paper. Wind string around the centre several times and secure at the back. The hessian ribbon is attached in the other direction as shown in the picture.

Next step is to make the lavender wreath.

Using florist wire make a circle in the size that you want for your gift. Attach pieces of lavender securing with florist wire as you go around the circle.

Attach the wreath to the hessian ribbon with florist wire. Hot glue can be used to attach the Christmas verse to the ribbon.

CHRISTMAS BAUBLES

  • White wrapping paper
  • printed Christmas paper – 2 styles. I chose one with writing and one patterned.
  • Faux greenery
  • Double sided tape roller
  • Hot glue gun

Wrap gift in white paper. Use one sheet of paper cut shapes out to look like Christmas baubles, use a circle cookie cutter as a template making sure to add the jut out to make it look like a bauble.

Glue your greenery to the top of your gift, this becomes a branch for the baubles to “hang” from.

Take your second sheet of paper and cut out an end for the baubles as shown in the picture. There are plenty of printable bauble templates online if you need one.

Glue hooks on to the baubles and then the baubles onto the gift using double sided tape. Stagger the baubles as shown in the picture below. Final step is to use a black pen to draw string to attach the baubles to the branch.

DOILY TREE

  • Plain red wrapping paper
  • white paper doily
  • red and white twine
  • a star. I used a timber star on a small peg. I found my at a discount store.
  • a Christmas saying
  • Double sided tape roller

Wrap your gift. Take the doily and fold the sides in to form the Christmas tree shape as shown in the picture.

Attach the tree to the gift and secure with the twine. Attach the star to the top. In my case I just clipped it on. If necessary use a hot glue gun or the glue roller. Lastly add your Christmas verse.

RUSTIC CHRISTMAS TAG

  • Striped paper
  • string
  • two small pieces of faux greens
  • Glue gun
  • small tag either purchased or cut from cardstock
  • Christmas tree shape. I found one cut from rustic timber. You could use one cut from cardstock if you cant find a timber one.

Wrap your gift and tie string around it and finish with a bow.

Glue your Christmas tree to your tag. Using more string attach the tag and the two pieces of greenery and tie a knot. Done!

JINGLE BELLS

  • Plain gold paper
  • Paper doily
  • Black and gold ribbon
  • Two jingle bells
  • Double sided tape roller
  • Glue gun

Wrap your gift in the gold paper. Take the doily and tape it to the gift half on top and half down the side as show in the picture.

Take your ribbon and tie a loose knot in the middle. Attach to the gift along the top edge and secure at the back of the gift. Use your glue gun and glue the two jingle bells to the area under the knot.

CROCHET LOVE

  • Brown paper
  • Old crochet tablecloth or doily
  • String
  • Faux green stem
  • Glue gun

Wrap your gift in brown paper. I used the edge of an old tablecloth and cut out a strip but you could also use round doilies and add a few side by side if you can’t find a tablecloth.

TARTAN MAGIC

  • Tartan wrapping paper
  • 3 Timber beads
  • White string
  • Thin red ribbon
  • Fine point marker pens – black and red
  • Hot glue gun

Wrap your gift in the tartan paper and then wrap the string around the gift several times. To make the snow man – thread the string through the first bead and tie several knots. Secure into the bead with hot glue. Add your second bead and then tie a piece of the red ribbon around the string on top of the second bead and knot as show in the picture. This becomes a scarf.

Top with your final bead, knot and secure with hot glue leaving a loop so you can attach to the present.

Draw buttons on the two bottom beads. Add eyes, a red nose and a mouth to the top bead. Your little cutie is done. Attach to the present with some hot glue using the string loop.

FAMILY CHRISTMAS

  • White paper
  • Grey and white string or whatever colour your can find.
  • Pom Poms or faux snowballs
  • Large black and white family pictures
  • Double sided tape roller
  • Hot glue gun

Wrap your gift and tie the string around it ending with a bow.

Secure your pom poms in one corner with hot glue and then slip your photograph in through the string attaching with double sided tape. Another idea is to use black and white photographs from all previous family Christmas’ as your table runner. Your guests will love looking for pictures of themselves years younger. It’s a lot of fun.

No 12 in my 12 simple gift wrapping ideas – POM POM TRIM

My last gift wrapping idea is a cute red and white one.

  • Plain red wrapping paper
  • White ribbon
  • Pom Pom ribbon. I found mine at KMart and it was only $2. There was enough for several gifts.
  • Hot glue gun
  • Red and white Christmas embellishments

Wrap your gift. Wind your pom pom ribbon around your gift securing at the back with hot glue. Top with the white ribbon so that just the pom poms are showing at the bottom. Secure at the back with hot glue. This gives you a lovely thick band through the middle of your gift.

Attach your embellishments to the top half of the gift to finish it off.

I hope you find some inspiration from my 12 simple gift wrapping ideas. Many of which can be used for birthday gifts as well. I add a simple white tag to my gifts if I need to add a name. If you need any tablescape ideas check out this post.
