Christmas decorations for the home
I’ve started doing the Christmas decorations for the home this year. Each Christmas I like to use a lot of what I have on hand while adding some new items to give everything a fresh look. I always start my thought process with the colours I want to use for my Christmas table and the tree decorations. For 2020 I decided to go with gold, white with a bit of added black. For the family room/kitchen I usually stick with the more traditional red and white because it makes me happy 😂. I don’t decorate the whole house. While its fun to decorate, the packing away is a nightmare!!! The decorations are concentrated in the family room and the lounge room. This year I did add some decorations to the front garden. Having the garden made over has made me more excited to show it off a little.
Family Room Decorations
In the family room I changed out the decoration on my marble tiered tray.
- The mug and light up dome came from TK Maxx
- The cute reindeer came from Bed Bath n Table
- I found the little sign at The Christmas Cart
- The candle is a Royal Doulton Christmas Candle which was a gift from last year
- The baubles and greenery are from my collection
- Small Xmas trees from my collection
I also added some Christmas to my round tray. The baubles are all from my collection. The picks in the vase and pine cones are from The Christmas Cart. I purchased the white and red collection. These two packs came in very handy for my decorating this year. I ended up adding them to various displays.
Almost everything for my dining table display came from TK Maxx. The two picks came from Bed Bath n Table last year. The decorations on the small tree came from Europe. I really loved the simplicity of this years table decoration. I think it has a very homey relaxed vibe to it.
Family room windows
The two large wreaths in the windows I have had for a few years. I found the flannel wired ribbon at The Christmas Cart.
The kitchen window sign came from The Christmas Cart. It was really good value for its size and quality. The foliage came from K Mart. I was given the Johnson Brothers plate as a gift for Christmas in 2016. The small Xmas tree and mug on the window sill came from TK Maxx.
The two wreaths on my glass front cabinet I have had for years.
Timber hutch decorations
For the timber hutch I combined two garlands. One was from my collection while the other one came from Bed Bath N Table. I then added red baubles from my collection to give it some colour. Our kitchen stools were decorated with small wreaths from Bed Bath N Table and the same flannel ribbon from The Christmas Cart.
When doing the Christmas decorations for the home I don’t usually have a plan other than than keeping in mind the colours I have chosen for the tree and table. My process is to hang my wreaths and garlands first. I will then add little bits and pieces over a few days as I find new things and go through my Christmas collection. This way I don’t stress myself out too much and enjoy the process. When I hang my garlands I use Command removable hooks to keep them in place.
Front garden decorations
The decorations in the front garden were kept very simple but I love how it came up.
All the items I used for out the front were inexpensive because we get such hot summers here everything will fade and probably be unusable for next year. Most of it came from Kmart.
- Light up Merry Christmas sign came from Bunnings but they have sold out. I found the same one on Catch.
- Reindeer also came from Bunnings.
- Wreath from Kmart, I added glittery butterflies to the wreath and they were also from Kmart. Merry Christmas sign from Christmas Cart. The red bow I already owned.
- The Christmas Tree that I placed in the urn came from Kmart. The decorations and ribbons were old ones.
- The Happy Holidays sign was from TKMaxx.
- Christmas tree cushion also from KMart.
- The lights I used on the wreath and xmas tree are from Bunnings and are fantastic. They are battery operated and have a built in 6hr timer. When you first turn them on they will run for 6hrs and turn off. They will then turn on at the same time the next day.
Now comes all the fun of the food planning and preparation for the day. Stay tuned and I will share as much as I can of this process.
