Master Bedroom Makeover

It’s no secret that the master bedroom is often the most used room in a home. After all, it’s where we sleep, relax and sometimes even work from home. So why not take the time to make it as comfortable and functional as possible? A master bedroom makeover can be just what you need to create a space that feels like your own personal oasis. Whether you’re looking for ideas on how to revamp your existing décor or just starting from scratch, these tips will help get you started.

The before

Have a look at the space before the master bedroom makeover.

Tony and I love vintage pieces and the new makeover will still have a vintage feel about it.

What changes we want to make in the Master Bedroom Makeover

The things that we will be doing in this room are:-

  • Wallpaper the wall behind the bed
  • Bring in a new vintage French bed that we found at an antique store
  • Restore a chest of drawers currently in the room
  • Restore a vintage cupboard and turn it into perfect storage for handbags and clutches
  • Find a good sized neutral rug
  • Install new roman blinds and sheers

Getting started on the master bedroom makeover

First up I’m going to tackle the timber cupboard renovation so that Tony can turn it into bag storage for me.

All that is needed from me is a good sanding and a clean up of the hardware. I love doing this because the change is dramatic with just a little elbow grease.

Before and During the sanding process

Tony used MDF to construct the bag storage in the refurbished cabinet. He routed grooves to house removeable uprights so that it can cater for all size handbags.

While I’m in sanding mode I will also tackle the chest of drawers and hardware.

Wallpaper feature wall

Having a wallpaper feature wall was definitely the first thing I wanted to do for the bedroom. I wanted it to be a beautiful floral that had a bit of a vintage feel. This post shows you how we hung the wallpaper.

New Rug

We’ve never had a rug in the bedroom but really wanted to include one this time. Because we installed a floral wallpaper the rug had to be very neutral. It took a while but I eventually found what I wanted on Etsy. I loved that this rug because it had a vintage feel to it.

Armchair Cover

When doing this bedroom makeover I was very conscious about what I was purchasing and didn’t want to replace furniture if I didn’t have to do. I wanted to have an armchair in the room instead of the sofa that we did have. As we had an old Ikea armchair from another bedroom I decided to use that and order a new cover. The company I ordered the cover from was a new Australian Company called The Styled Sofa and I chose a beautiful linen in the colour Annecy. It really transformed the armchair and it fits perfectly in the room now.

Blinds and Curtains

Our first choice for window coverings is motorised roman blinds. That is what we chose to use for this bedroom makeover. We also added sheers over the large door.

For this small window I chose a neutral stripe called Grande Stripe Linen. The blind also has a blackout layer.

For the large sliding door, I chose a pure linen roman blind with blockout lining. For this door I also chose to hang sheers to soften the look. As mentioned previously all our roman blinds are motorised.

Bed Linen

Having the beautiful wallpaper I decided to keep the bed linen very plain and stick with white. The bedspread I already had. I added white sheets with a beautiful pom pom feature and some scalloped edge European covers. To finish the bed off I added a vintage sheet we picked up in France and a fabulous monogrammed cushion in a neutral colour with pink piping.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour of my newly remodelled master bedroom. It was a lot of work, but it was so worth it! I’m absolutely thrilled with the results and I can’t wait to show you more rooms in our home that have been given a makeover. Let me know what you think about the changes we made.

We used wallpaper in our office makeover too.
