New Kitchen Reveal

Hi there friends I hope you have enjoyed the story of our journey from a tiny kitchen to a beautiful fresh white Hamptons style kitchen. It’s time to reveal what our tiny little kitchen looks like now. It was a long hard process but I think it was worth it – I hope you agree!! Let me know your thoughts. If you’re planning your own kitchen renovation make sure you opt in to get my tips for renovating your own small kitchen.

Well what do you think? I love the glass fronted cabinet. Its practical storage but also allows me to display some of my beautiful things.

Dishwasher

We researched all our appliances prior to purchasing them. The Miele dishwasher has been fantastic and I would highly recommend it. They have changed the design since we purchased ours so I can’t link it. However, I don’t think you would go wrong with any of them. I particularly love the cutlery tray they have instead of the cutlery basket, the knives and forks are always clean. Our kitchen renovation was done ten years ago and the dishwasher has not missed a beat in that time. We choose not to rinse our dishes but the dishwasher never smells and its very rare for anything to be left behind on the dishes even after a few days.

Sink

The only item in the kitchen that I went against the look I really wanted was the sink. Instead of the white farmhouse sink that I really loved I went with a more practical stainless steel sink. We went with a Versastyle Sink.

I chose this sink because I wanted a really large one but at the time I liked the option of the smaller sink and the draining rack. It turned out however that I would eventually put the small sink and the draining board in the shed!!! I also chose stainless steel for practical reasons. The research I did into the farmhouse sinks made me worry that with all the entertaining I did there was the risk of chipping and marking. I’m not sure I would make the same decision again now though. Yes, it has been very practical and I don’t have to be precious – but its not a farmhouse sink!!!

Freestanding stove

I knew as soon as I started designing the kitchen that I wanted a 90cm freestanding oven. After researching different brands we went with Ilve. I love it, having the larger oven has been a godsend when entertaining. We chose the oven with the teppanyaki plate but to be honest we have hardly ever used it. I found it hard to clean as its very heavy, and I would rather use one of my non stick pans instead. If you’re considering this oven, unless you particularly want a teppanyaki plate, I would save my money and get the cheaper one. We have had the oven for about ten years now and it is used almost every day. We have recently had to replace the elements but other than that it has worked tirelessly without any problems.

Refrigerator

When choosing the refrigerator the main criteria was that it had to be big!. We ended up choosing Westinghouse because the largest side by side on the market at the time and it wasn’t overly expensive. It has been a really good fridge although a few years into owning it we had to get someone out to fix the water outlet. Also one of the door baskets cracked and we had to replace it. In terms of day to day running though it has never broken down and has served us well.

The full kitchen reveal

Ten years on I’m still in love with my kitchen. I think it has stood the test of time and still fits in with the style we are slowly pulling together for our home. I can’t see a time when I don’t love it. Entertaining now is an absolute pleasure. I particularly love the open concept of the whole space. I’ll show you what we have done in the dining and family areas in other posts.

Products Used in the Kitchen remodel

The products used in our kitchen are listed below. I have provided links where possible but if you have any questions don’t hesitate to email me.

  • Cabinet Style is Shaker with a 2 pac flat (not glossy) finish. The colour we chose is Dulux Natural White;
  • Trim Colour: Dulux Vivid White
  • Benchtop: Caesarstone Ice Snow
  • Freestanding Oven and Rangehood: Ilve Quadra Series and Canopy Rangehood
  • Dishwasher: They no longer sell our Miele model however I think any of their dishwashers would be great. The feature we love with ours is the cutlery tray instead of a basket.
  • Refrigerator: Westinghouse side by side. It appears they no longer make ours but this one is very similar just slightly smaller.
  • Pendant Lights: Beacon Lighting.
  • Stools: The Beach Furniture.
  • Kitchen faucet: The sink had a hole in it for a soap dispenser that we didn’t want. I really wanted a pull out tap to make cleaning of such a large sink easier. Because of this we were looking for something to fit in the holes that we had and this one from The English Tapware Company fit the bill perfectly and I love it!!!
  • Timber Flooring: We chose an engineered timber floating floor system that was easy to lay. It has held up well but there are a few dings in the kitchen area where something has been dropped. We are able to sand and reseal this flooring but so far nothing looks that unsightly.
  • Splashback Tiles were from Italy and designed for bathrooms. We laid them on their side so they had a tongue and groove timber look to them.. You can no longer get them here and I couldn’t find anything similar.

See the before photos of this kitchen here. I also have some photos and information on the demolition and rebuilding process in this post.
