Window Coverings

As we all know, details matter, and nothing screams luxury in a room like curtains and roman blinds. The right set of curtains and blinds can turn any bland room into a cozy and inviting space. Whether your guests are looking for a midday nap or a relaxing evening, these additions will ensure that they are relaxed and comfortable throughout their stay. With a variety of styles, colours, and patterns available, you can surely find the perfect set for your guest room decor. So, let’s get started and elevate your guest room to the next level of comfort and style with curtains and roman blinds!

If you’ve been following along for a while you will know how much I love the DIY blind option from Blinds on Line. We chose a linen roman blind and of course chose the remote control option. We love this option as it keeps the blinds tidy with no cords and less dangerous.

For the curtains we worked with a company called Two Pages Curtains. We chose a Stefana Silber Print for our curtains and absolutely love them. They blend really well with the blind we chose and give the room a beautiful cozy feel.

We have also decided to upgrade the trim around the window by adding wider trim and a small decorative shelf at the bottom.

Updating the vinyl wardrobe doors

If you’re tired of the old and outdated look of your wardrobe doors, it’s time to give them a makeover with some DIY shaker style. The shaker style is a classic design that’s both elegant and chic – perfect for elevating the look of any room. And the best part is, it’s incredibly easy to achieve with just a few simple steps. With some basic materials like wood glue, wooden boards, and a few tools, you can easily update your wardrobe doors to match your style and personality. With a little effort and creativity, you’ll have beautiful and stylish doors in no time! Check our our tutorial here.

Does any furniture need an update to fit the space better?

The bed

Transforming a dark and outdated vintage bed with a fresh coat of paint is a simple yet effective way to give your bedroom a stunning new look. With a little bit of elbow grease and some creativity, it’s easy to take a vintage bed from drab to fab. Begin by selecting a colour that will compliment your decor—it can be a shade of white for a classic and clean look, or a bold hue for a pop of colour. Sand down any rough edges and use a gentle primer before applying the paint. Once you’re finished, you’ll be amazed at how much brighter and refreshed your bedroom feels. We decided to match the blind to give the room some warmth without feeling too dark. The bed is also fairly low so we will be adding feet to make it a higher. These timber feet were perfect and gave just enough height to the bed.

Revamping a side table

Consider sanding back some furniture to give it a new lease on life. Not only will it add unique character to your space, but you’ll also be doing your part to recycle and repurpose furniture. By using what you already have, you’ll save money and feel proud of your DIY accomplishment. Plus, there’s something satisfying about transforming an old piece of furniture into something beautiful and functional once again. So grab your sander and get to work. I will be transforming a side table and reuse an old desk and chair.

Lighting

Lighting plays an essential role in creating the perfect ambiance for your guest room. Consider installing dimmer switches to allow your guests to adjust the light to their preference. Additionally, add lamps or wall-mounted sconces to create different lighting moods. A nightlight can be a thoughtful addition, especially if your guests are unfamiliar with the space. For this space we wanted to add wall mounted remote controlled sconces and a lamp on the desk. The wall mounted lights do not require an electrician as they operate with rechargeable light bulbs. We also did a DIY on an old lamp that used rechargeable light bulbs again this meant we did need an electrician to put in a new power point.

Bedding

The most important feature of your guest room is the bedding. Invest in quality bedding to turn your guest room into a cozy oasis. Choose warm and comfortable bedding such as a soft duvet, sheets with a high thread count, and fluffy pillows. Also, make sure to have extra blanket options, so your guests can find the perfect temperature to sleep comfortably throughout the night.

Personalise the space

Finally, add personal touches to your guest room to make your guests feel welcome. Consider hanging art on the walls, adding decorative pillows, and a cozy throw blanket. Don’t forget to add a welcome note, brochures with local attractions, and a bowl of snacks to make your guest feel at home. Magazines and books can make your guests feel more at home.

Additionally, make sure to deep clean the room, including dusting, vacuuming, and wiping down surfaces. A clean and fresh room will create a more calming and relaxing environment.

Transforming your guest room into a cozy oasis can be a fun project that you can do on a budget. Focus on what makes guests feel comfortable, such as quality bedding, practical furniture, and ambient lighting. Add personal touches and details to make sure your guests feel welcome and at home. With these DIY tips and tricks, both you and your guests will enjoy the space for years to come.
