Halloween is the perfect excuse to get creative in the kitchen and have a little fun with entertaining.

From creepy cupcakes and caramel-filled cookies to festive chocolate bark and themed drinks, these treats are simple to make while still looking wonderfully spooky.
And of course, no Halloween celebration would be complete without a fun themed table to bring everything together.
Easy Halloween Cupcake Ideas
Cupcakes are always a winner for Halloween because they’re easy to decorate and simple to customise to suit any spooky theme.
For this dessert table, I made two different cupcake flavours.
Passionfruit Filled Vanilla Cupcakes
These vanilla cupcakes are soft, sweet, and filled with tangy passionfruit curd for a surprise centre.
Ingredients
- Vanilla packet cake mix
- Ingredients listed on the box
- Buttercream icing
- Food colouring
- Passionfruit curd
- Meringue discs
- Halloween cupcake decorations
My Favourite Cake Mix Hack
To make packet cakes taste more homemade, I always:
- Replace oil with butter
- Replace water with milk
- Add an extra egg
It creates a richer flavour and much softer texture.
How to Assemble the Cupcakes
Once the cupcakes have cooled, cut a small hole in the centre and fill with a teaspoon of passionfruit curd. Lemon curd also works beautifully.
A cupcake corer makes this much easier, but a small knife works perfectly fine too.
Top with coloured buttercream icing and your favourite Halloween cupcake decorations.
Chocolate Hazelnut Halloween Cupcakes
Chocolate cupcakes filled with Nutella are always popular and work perfectly for Halloween dessert tables.
Ingredients
- Chocolate cake mix
- Buttercream icing
- Nutella
- Halloween cupcake toppers and cases
How to Make Them
Bake the cupcakes according to the packet instructions using your chosen Halloween cases.
Once cooled, fill the centres with Nutella before topping with buttercream icing and spooky decorations.
If you want to make them extra indulgent, chocolate buttercream works beautifully here.
Easy Halloween Bark Recipe
Halloween bark is one of the easiest seasonal desserts you can make and it always looks impressive.
Ingredients
- White chocolate
- Candy corn
- Mini Oreos
- Mini Reese’s cups
- Halloween sprinkles
How to Make Halloween Bark
Line a tray with baking paper and melt the white chocolate in the microwave using 30-second intervals, stirring between each round.
Pour the chocolate onto the tray and spread it evenly.
Before the chocolate sets, quickly scatter the toppings across the surface.
I cut the Reese’s cups in half so they were easier to eat and looked more balanced on the bark.
Once set, simply break into pieces and serve.
Candy Corn Cookies
These candy corn cookies are soft in the centre with delicious caramel flavour throughout.
Ingredients
- Butter
- Brown sugar
- Caster sugar
- Milk
- Vanilla
- Egg
- Plain flour
- Baking powder
- Caramilk chocolate chips
- Toasted flaked almonds
- Caramel apple candy corn
As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, quickly add your toppings before they cool. Having everything prepared beforehand makes the process much easier.
Candy Corn Cookies
Ingredients
- ¾ cup softened Butter
- ¾ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- ½ cup caster sugar (granulated sugar)
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg (large)
- 2 cups Plain flour (all purpose)
- 1 tsp baking powder (baking soda)`
- 1 ½ cups caramlik choc chips
- ½ cup toasted flaked almonds
- 1 cup caramel apple candy corn
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350F). Line a cookie tray with baking paper
- Cream the butter and sugars with a stand mixer for 2 minutes on high. Scrape down the bowl.
- Add the egg, milk and vanilla and beat until combined. Scape down the sides of the bowl.
- Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl and whisk together well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mix and mix until well combined.
- Add 3/4 of the choc chips and all of the nuts into the mix and beat on low until just combined.
- Using an ice cream scoop place scoops of cookie dough onto the prepared cookie tray leaving about 2.5cm(1 inch) between them as the cookies will spread.
- Bake cookies for 10 minutes until the cookies are slightly brown on the edges. Remove from oven and top each cookie with the candy corn and some of the reserved chocolate chips.
- Let cookies cool for about 5 minutes before moving to a cooling rack.
A Fun Halloween Drink Idea
My drink choice this year was the classic “spider.”
For an extra festive touch, I served them in mini milk bottles with Halloween decals made using my Cricut Maker.
How to Make a Spider Drink
- Add ice cream to your glass or bottle
- Pour over your favourite soda
- Add a straw and serve immediately
I used raspberry soda which worked perfectly for the Halloween colour theme.
Setting Your Halloween Table
No Halloween celebration feels complete without a themed table setup.
I love starting with a white tablecloth because it creates a neutral base that allows the decorations and food to stand out.
From there, you can easily build colour and texture using:
- Table runners
- Napkins
- Plates
- Spooky decorations
- Seasonal serving pieces
For this setup, I found a large black cauldron along with several smaller ones and used them as the centrepiece for the table.
I then added:
- Spiders
- Skeletons
- Bats
- Halloween decorations
Simple themed touches can completely transform a table without requiring a huge budget.
