Update your Holiday Decor
Two simple Christmas Crafts
This holiday season, I’m excited to share two delightful, DIY Christmas crafts and ways to update your holiday decor. Each project involves simple, budget-friendly materials and a bit of creativity, resulting in festive pieces that can elevate your Christmas decorations. Let’s dive in!
1. DIY Copper and Pearl Christmas Tree Collar
One way to elevate your Christmas tree’s look is to focus on its base! A Christmas tree collar provides a polished finish, and with a few tweaks, it can become a show-stopping piece that ties the whole look together.
Supplies:
- Old Christmas tree collar (if you don’t have one, many craft stores carry inexpensive options)
- Copper coloured paint. You can use spray paint or a brush like I did.
- String pearls
- Hot glue gun.
Steps:
- Prep and Paint: Start by thoroughly cleaning your tree collar to ensure the paint adheres well. Once it’s dry, paint with copper paint. Apply a few light coats for a smooth finish, allowing each layer to dry before adding the next.
- Add the Pearl Trim: Measure and cut a string of pearls to fit around the top and bottom edges of the collar. Using a hot glue gun, attach the pearl trim along the edges. This not only adds a lovely contrast to the copper but brings a timeless, elegant touch to your tree base.
- Finish and Admire: Once the glue is completely dry, place the collar around your Christmas tree base. The rich copper combined with the soft pearl details will give your tree an elegant and unique touch.
2. Glamorous Bauble Makeover: Copper, Pearls, and a Silvery Gold Twist
Give your old baubles a fresh, sophisticated look with a touch of paint, pearls, and velvet ribbons.
Supplies:
- Three large baubles (old or inexpensive, plain ornaments)
- Copper paint
- Silvery gold paint
- Stick-on pearls in various sizes
- Rub ‘n Buff metallic wax (gold leaf)
- Velvet ribbon in your chosen colour
- Paintbrush
Steps:
- Bauble 1: Copper Finish
- Clean your bauble to remove any dust or debris.
- Paint it in copper, using light coats for even coverage.
- Use rub n buff around the top part of the bauble then finish with a velvet ribbon
- Bauble 2: Pearl Embellished
- For this bauble, you’ll keep the original colour or spray it a soft, creamy tone.
- Apply stick-on pearls in various sizes across the surface. You can create patterns or simply scatter them for a whimsical effect.
- Finish by adding a touch of Rub ‘n Buff around the top of the bauble to enhance the vintage feel. Add a velvet ribbon
- Bauble 3: Silvery Gold Shine
- Paint this bauble in a silvery gold shade, giving it a gentle glow. Once it’s dry, add a bit of Rub ‘n Buff and velvet ribbon
Displaying DIY Baubles as Statement Decor
These glamorously revamped baubles can work as centerpieces or accents around your home.
- Tabletop Display: Arrange the baubles on a decorative tray with fresh greenery, pinecones, or fairy lights. This creates a beautiful centerpiece for a dining or coffee table. Place them at varying angles to showcase each unique design.
- Floor Display: If you have a fireplace, entryway, or even space near the Christmas tree, display these baubles nestled in a basket or surrounded by seasonal greenery. Group them in odd numbers for a balanced look that draws the eye.
- Shelf or Mantel Accent: Place the baubles on a low shelf, cabinet, or mantel, mixed with candle holders or holiday figurines. They’ll add a rich, festive feel that’s perfect for a cozy, layered holiday look.
These crafts are easy to customize, so feel free to experiment with colours, patterns, and trims to match your personal holiday style. Each of these DIY ideas will update your holiday decor and give it a high-end feel without breaking the bank, making your tree and holiday space both cozy and chic. Happy crafting, and may your holidays be merry and bright!
